How to read deleted messages on WhatsApp
Only text messages can be viewed and one will not be able to recover deleted images, video or other media files.
WhatsApp recently launched a new ‘Delete For Everyone’ feature, which allowed users to delete the sent messages within seven minutes. Now, according to a new report, the recipient can access the deleted messages, quite easily.
According to a Spanish Android blog, Android Jefe, users’ smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat or higher version can simply download a third-party app called Notification History, which is available on Google Play. The app basically allows you to see the Android notification log through which users can retrieve the deleted messages.
However, before moving on there are few points one need to keep in mind. First of all, only text messages can be viewed and one will not be able to recover deleted images, video or other media files. Secondly, it only works when a user has received a notification of the message. Thirdly, one can only view the first 100 characters of the message only. Lastly, the notification log usually stores the information for few hours only and one will not be able to retrieve the deleted message if they have performed a restart.
Here’s how to use it via Notification History app:
- Step 1: Download the Notification History app from the Play Store.
- Step 2: Find the WhatsApp icon with the name of the person and tap on it.
- Step 3: You will be able to see a message in a form of android.txt. From there, users will be able to see the messages.
Nova Launcher
The report further adds that if users have installed Nova Launcher than there is no need to download a third-party app to access the deleted messages. All you have to do is:
- Step 1: Long press the home screen, then tap on Widgets
- Step 2: Click on Activities and then on Settings
- Step 3: You will see Notification Log on the list. Click to add on home screen
For Stock Andriod:
On stock Android, users will have to find the Notification registration option on the Setting menu. From there, one will be able to recover the deleted text messages.
